Stega Nona Takes a Vacation

By: Tomie dePaola

DePaola, T. (2000). Strega Nona takes a vacation. New York: Putnam.

Tomie dePaola (1934) Writer and Illustrator

Strega Nona Takes a Vacation is about a grandmother "Nonna" who lives in a village in Italy. She has a dream and her Grandmother speaks to her and highly recommends she takes a vacation. Strega Nona goes on vacation and leaves Big Anthony and Bambolona alone for the week to get into trouble.
The illustrations is what makes this book, like many other dePaola books so similar and recognizable. The pictures are fairly animated, there are many colors but have the same color scheme of light pastel colors. The pictures are in boxes on the pages and some pages have just pictures and no words.  The pictures can tell the story adding only a few detail changes to the pictures.
